production means the raw elements for the film are recorded during the film shoot.
when producing a film the production of the film goes through all different stages. An initial story/idea through scriptwriting, casting, shooting, editing and screening.
Script writing in film; A screenplay or script is a written work that is made especially for a film or television programme. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also narrated
Casting; casting is also known as central casting in the film industry this is the department at a film company in which they choose which character is going to play each part.
Shooting; Film shots are an essential aspect of a movie where angles, transitions and cuts are used to further express emotion, ideas and movement. The term "shot" can refer to two different parts of the filmmaking process.
Editing; The film editor works with the raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences to create a finished motion picture. Film editing is often referred to as the invisible art because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not even aware of the editor's work. A film editor must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors' performances.
Screening; screening basically refers to the showing of a motion picture.
Distribution basically means, selling the film to companies ready for exhibition.
Techniques of distribution
- cinemas (trailers, film posters, standees)
- internet
- television/radio (adverts, trailers, talk shows, behind the scenes documentary shows)
- print (billboards, newspapers, magazines, inserts in books, posters, leaflets)
- merchandising (branded drink cups, toys)
why do distributors decide to go for a release on one weekend as opposed to another?

MARKETINING
Different types of marketing:
- Trailers
- Bus ads
- Happy meals
- Billboards
- Toys
- Posters
- Inserts in magazines ...etc.
films can be marketed in different ways to different audiences. for instance for young children generally 5-12 the films for their age group are marketed by merchandising for instance toys, teddy bears of the characters, branded cups. for films targeted at young youths they usually contain a main star which will attract the girls/boys but also through trailers and talk shows same with adult films.

EXHIBITION
Audiences can get to see the films in a home cinema, the cinema or either at home on DVD's. There are different ways in which we engage in films today for instance; sex appeal (example, Megan fox or Channing Tatum), famous singers (Rihanna in battlefield) etc.
The Film Value Chain
the film value chain is when businesses receive raw materials as input, and add a value to the raw materials through various processes, and sell finished products to customers.
