In Fear research HOMEWORK

 IN FEAR

The director for the movie In Fear is called Jeremy Lovering and the producer are Nira Park and James Biddle.
Starring Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures, Ginger and Rosa), Allen Leech (Downton Abbey) and Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), ‘In Fear’ is an intense psychological horror about a young couple’s fight to make it through the night. Home invasion but in a car. In real-time. Tom and Lucy are trapped in a maze of country roads with only their vehicle for protection, terrorised by an unseen tormentor hell-bent on exploiting their worst fears – fear of the dark, fear of the unknown, fear of themselves.
‘The Best British chiller since The Descent’ (Daily Telegraph).
There's a review being released about the film and it's talking about what their strengths and weaknesses are which is interesting because you have a glimpse of the movie and helps you decide if you want to spend money to watch it.
The film hasn't received any awards yet because it hasn't been released.
The production companies that were involved were Asot Elite Entertainment Group, Bir Film and StudioCanal.

It's challenging to look for other advertisements for this movie because it is unknown to the UK and I think this is because it lacks advertisements and is a low budget film.

what ive learnt from making the swede

what i've learnt from making the swede (mean girls)

Whilst making the swede mean girls i have learnt a range of new terminology through the media world.

During the making of the swede i have become a prosumer, this means i have comsumed and produced. as i have produced the film mean girls sweded and consumed content on the the internet.

Another terminoligical term i have learnt is synergy. synergy means products that promote each other, which is mutually beneficial. for example mcdonalds use synergy in there happy meals as the toys which are consisted in the happy meal is usually a toy based on a childrens film such as monsters university. and then the film will mention mc donalds as the sponsor them.

Cross media conergence; cross media convergence is similar to synergy except that the product wouldnt exist without one another. for example adele's song skyfall is linked into the film 'skyfall' adele purposly wrote this song for the film skyfall. so basically if it wasnt for the film 'skfall' adele wouldnt have produced that exact song.

Convergent technology: most of us all are owners on convergent technology. convergent technology is hugely important for communicating with audiences, gaining fans and engaging fans. an example of a convergent technology is our smartphones such as my iphone. my iphone can do email, phone, text go on the internet, facebook, twitter etc.

when releasing our swede we managed to get a range of people from all over the world meaning we had an global audience, and we only can gain this from the internet.

An idea of advertising our swede through social networking sites

How I advertise our upcoming MEAN GIRLS SWEDE through social networking:

    Facebook
    Twitter:

Promoting the swede: Using this image of Miley Cyrus crying to attract my audience's attention and to persuade my future viewers to watch the SWEDE for Mean Girls. I used twitter and Facebook to advertise this to attract more people into watching the swede.

    Homework

The idea: An idea occurs to someone such as a Writer, Director, Producer, or Actor. For example, in 21 Jump Street Jonah Hill which is a main character called Schmidt has came up with the idea of the movie. In this competitive industry, ideas need to be fresh and marketable. Whether the idea moves forward from this point, and how quickly, depends on who comes up with it.
Development: An idea has to be evaluated before any significant money is spent on developing it into a film. The budget is taken into account at every point of the process.
Preproduction: Once all the ABOVE-THE-LINE people are reasonably happy, the project moves into official preproduction. It is during this stage that any additional above-the-line personnel are hired. As the production start date becomes announced, BELOW-THE-LINE crew are called. More often than not, the Director and at least one A-LIST star are asked to commit during development. As momentum for the project builds, schedules are created and a “realistic” budget is calculated.
Production: Assuming that the story and screenplay are strong and that plenty of time and money have been spent on preproduction, then PRODUCTION should be the easiest and most enjoyable part of the process. It is during this twelve-week period that the words on the page are turned into pictures and sound by a cast and crew of over one hundred skilled, and typically union, employees. Every shot featuring the principal cast is filmed by the FIRST UNIT crew. If additional photography is needed that doesn’t necessarily involve the main cast, such as stunts or elaborate special effects, a SECOND UNIT and/or SPECIAL EFFECTS UNIT is assembled to shoot simultaneously at a different location.
Proproduction: Proproduction is usually considered the period when all of the film is edited. The truth is that during actual production, an Editor has been cutting the DAILIES continually. By the time the shooting schedule ends, the Director will have a nearly complete movie to look at. Some Second Unit and effects work may continue far into the postproduction schedule. The Director and Producers will alter the Editor’s work as they please until they are happy. Location sound is fixed with ADR, SOUND EFFECTS are added, and a music score is married to the completed picture.
Marketing: A publicity campaign is designed for the project during preproduction. Behind-the-scenes footage is coordinated by the Unit Publicist during production, as are any interviews that newspapers, magazines, and television outlets request. Prior to release, a PRESS JUNKET is held at a hotel with the principal players and reporters from around the world.
Release: The red-carpet premiere, a marketing tool in the guise of a party to help sell the movie to the public, is a staple for many films. Journalists from around the world are invited to take pictures and ask questions of the movie stars.
    DISTRUBUTION:
Distributors decide to release their movie on one weekend as opposed to another because there is a lot of competition with other movies going on. This is as all they would want is to release their movie on one weekend but if they do that with a variety of other films being released on the same weekend they wouldn't earn much in the box office. Therefore, they would want a weekend that doesn't have much to offer, so new film releases so it has more of a chance of being more successful by earning a lot more in the box office.
    MARKETING:
Examples of different types of marketing:
Trailers, bus ads, happy meals, social network websites with ads, successful websites, magazines, sponsors, door hangers, YouTube ads, writing articles (online and offline), billboards, film posters, film website, film previews, social media marketing,.
Exhibition: This is the final stage of film making, it is all about how the audience sees the film.
'The Film Value Chain' follows the order of development to financing to pre-sales to production to sales and licensing to distribution to exploitation.
Audience are able to see a released movie in cinemas first then to DVD, then to pay to view and then finally on television. We can also watch movies online on for example, Netflix or www.letmewatchthis.ch. We can catch up with watching a movie on our Smart phones, iPods, iPads, Kindle Fire HD etc.

    Script draft

    Mean Girls Script

Cady: Both of my parents are research zoologists and we've spent the last years in Africa. I had a great life. But then my mom got offered tenure at Northwestern University. So it was goodbye Africa and hello high school.

Teacher: I just wanted to let everyone know that we have a new student joining us. She just moved here all the way from Africa.

Cady: The first day of school was a blur.  A stressful, surreal blur. I had a lot of friends in Africa. But so far, none in Evanston.

    At lunch.

Regina: OK, you should just know that we don't do this a lot, so this is, like, a really huge deal. We wanna invite you to have lunch with us every day for the rest of the week.

    In maths class.

Aaron: Hey, do you have a pencil I can borrow?

Cady’s inner voice: I've only had one other crush in my life. His name was Nfume, and we were. It didn't work out. But this one hit me like a big, yellow school bus. He is so gorgeous and so cute. But there was one problem……

Gretchin: So have you seen any guys that you think are cute yet?

Cady: Well, there's this guy in my calculus class...

    Gretchin: Who is it?

Cady points out to Aaron (Shahed)

Gretchin: Oh, no, you can't like Aaron Samuels.

Gretchin: That's Regina's ex-boyfriend. They went out for a year. candy looks confused.. Yeah, and then she was devastated when he broke up with her last summer. I think she dumped him for Shane Oman. OK, irregardless. Ex-boyfriends are just off-limits to friends.

Regina seems sweet. Regina George is nowhere near sweet. She’s fabulous but she’s evil.

    Production, Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition

    PRODUCTION

production means the raw elements for the film are recorded during the film shoot.

when producing a film the production of the film goes through all different stages. An initial story/idea through scriptwriting, casting, shooting, editing and screening.

Script writing in film;  A screenplay or script is a written work that is made especially for a film or television programme. In them, the movement, actions, expression, and dialogues of the characters are also narrated

Casting; casting is also known as central casting in the film industry this is the department at a film company in which they choose which character is going to play each part.

Shooting; Film shots are an essential aspect of a movie where angles, transitions and cuts are used to further express emotion, ideas and movement. The term "shot" can refer to two different parts of the filmmaking process.

Editing; The film editor works with the raw footage, selecting shots and combining them into sequences to create a finished motion picture. Film editing is often referred to as the invisible art because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not even aware of the editor's work. A film editor must creatively work with the layers of images, story, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors' performances.

Screening; screening basically refers to the showing of a motion picture.

     DISTRIBUTION

Distribution basically means, selling the film to companies ready for exhibition.

    Techniques of distribution

    • cinemas (trailers, film posters, standees)
    • internet
    • television/radio (adverts, trailers, talk shows, behind the scenes documentary shows)
    • print (billboards, newspapers, magazines, inserts in books, posters, leaflets)
    • merchandising (branded drink cups, toys)

why do distributors decide to go for a release on one weekend as opposed to another?

    MARKETINING

    Different types of marketing:

    • Trailers
    • Bus ads
    • Happy meals
    • Billboards
    • Toys
    • Posters
    • Inserts in magazines ...etc.
How films are sold to different audiences?

films can be marketed in different ways to different audiences. for instance for young children generally 5-12 the films for their age group are marketed by merchandising for instance toys, teddy bears of the characters, branded cups. for films targeted at young youths they usually contain a main star which will attract the girls/boys but also through trailers and talk shows same with adult films.

    EXHIBITION

Audiences can get to see the films in a home cinema, the cinema or either at home on DVD's. There are different ways in which we engage in films today for instance; sex appeal (example, Megan fox or Channing Tatum), famous singers (Rihanna in battlefield) etc.

    The Film Value Chain

the film value chain is when businesses receive raw materials as input, and add a value to the raw materials through various processes, and sell finished products to customers.

    Production

Production is the actual making of the film, there are various stages in making a film.

    These stages are:
The very actual idea of the film
    Expand your idea
    Story Board your film
Develop an aesthetic for your film
    Assemble a crew
Cast your crew with the appropriate actors for the parts
Dress the sets and scout the location
    Gather and test your equipment
    Film your film
    Edit your film
    Add sound effects  and music
Create the title and credits sequence
Export the film to the digital format (DVD)
    Make a teaser or trailer

    Distribution

Distribution is the process in which your film is taken to a distributor to watch to see if your film will sale and be popular in the box office and finding a company to sponsor your film
Distributors normally decide to ho for a release on one weekend as opposed to another because there is some much competition between other films that they would want a weekend that doesn't have as many new releases so it has more of a chance of making a hit in the box office.

    Marketing

Marketing is the advertising of your film, which gets the population wanting to go and see your film.
    some examples of marketing are:

Film Trailers/Teasers: This gives people an idea about what the film is about

Posters Advertisements: Gives people sub-conscious reminders of your film

Premières :Where the cast of the film, make an big appearance a night before the film is released which attracts a lot of media and fans

    Exhibition

Exhibition is how the audience view your film.
There are many different ways in which i audience could view your film a few of them being

Film theaters were the audience can go watch your film on a large screen, in 3D or not and in a quiet, comfortable atmosphere

Buying new releases from websites/softwares legally an example of this is itunes in which you can buy new box office releases and watch comfortably at home on your computer, ipod, tablets and phones

Tv Payments were you can also pay to watch new releases on your TV an example of this would be sky movies

The Film Value Chain: is the process of what happens to the releases after they have been screened.
